With the adoption of this text, in view of the Commission communication ‘Europe 2020 – A strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth’ and the European Parliament resolution of 21 September 2010 on completing the internal market for e-commerce, Parliament is seeking to emphasise the fact that, despite the further progress achieved on the digital level and the further modernisation of the sector, Member States must take into account the basic needs of ordinary citizens, especially the young, the uneducated, the disabled and those without Internet access, in order to ensure that all EU citizens have equal access to good-quality public service. It is also fundamentally important to promote and make use of the most advanced technologies resulting from research and development, so as to ensure data protection and the security of data against cyber attacks."@en1
