The EU higher education system will have to meet this challenge and customise courses and working methods to the requirements of the labour market and the increasingly more diversified student population. Parliament has expressed its regret at the significant cutbacks to education budgets in several Member States and has reminded them of the target of investing 2% of GDP in education. Parliament calls on Member States and regional and local authorities to ensure adequate funding of higher education institutions.
