"Mr President, climate change is causing environmental and humanitarian crises. It has a drastic impact on poor countries and people. I refer here, in particular, to women, because they account for 85% of the victims of natural disasters caused by climate conditions and 75% of environmental refugees.
The report contains numerous positive suggestions, which I endorse, such as the proposal to ensure social justice and a ‘climate-friendly’ indicator. However, the need to incorporate the gender dimension in all climate and sustainable development policies needs to be emphasised. In order to do so, we need specialised research and expert opinions on gender issues, so that we can plan rational natural disaster risk prevention and management strategies, manage environmental immigration correctly and obtain adequate financing from funds and climate-related resources. In my opinion, the European Union should incorporate the gender dimension into targeted climate-related policies, so that solutions can be found."@en1
