lpv:translated text	"I welcome the adoption of this report and particularly of amendment 53 which eliminates proportionality, that is the Commission’s proposal to tax fuels in terms of their energy efficiency and not of the pollution caused by their combustion. Under this approach, diesel, which offers better energy efficiency than petrol, should have been taxed more heavily (EUR 390 per tonne as against EUR 359 for petrol). At a time when the price of fuel is constantly increasing, it proved necessary to protect the purchasing power of French citizens who, more than their European neighbours, use diesel motors."@en1
