"It seems to me that the Commission officials who prepared this scandalous draft did not carry out any consultations and did not consider the effects of their proposals on society in Central and Eastern European countries. Yet the Commission’s proposal talks about multilateral consultations with stakeholders. With whom did these consultations take place? I would like to know who was consulted in my country. In Poland coal is the main fuel for heating residential households, especially in small towns and in the countryside. One tonne of coal, when burned, produces about three to three and a half tonnes of CO . If this is multiplied by EUR 20 per tonne of CO (where does this figure come from – plucked from thin air? – and why is it in euros?), then, assuming that the price of coal varies between PLN 500 and PLN 700 per tonne, its price will increase by about PLN 300 to PLN 800 and PLN 1 000 per tonne. The average household uses from six to seven tonnes of this fuel per annum and farmers use even more. Did these so-called consultations take the above into account? I do not think so. For this reason I voted against this execrable proposal."@en1
