".
It goes without saying that I, too, am concerned about combating international terrorism effectively through cooperation among states. The agreement with the United States for the transfer of passenger name records to the Department of Homeland Security is highly questionable from the point of view of data protection. There are no conditions laid down for accessing the data, nor is it possible to check exactly what happens to the data that is transferred. In particular, it is not clear whether the United States will transfer the data to third countries. The data will be permanently stored, and innocent citizens can thus be placed in non-transparent suspect categories. I have serious concerns about the fact that the agreement needs to be brought into line with the Charter of Fundamental Rights and the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union. As it is important to me to protect the privacy of citizens against the misuse of data, I have voted against the agreement."@en1
