"Mr President, ladies and gentlemen, I voted wholeheartedly in favour, remembering so many conversations with American politicians of various political persuasions who asked me repeatedly why there is still a problem regarding the protection of personal data of passengers on transatlantic flights and why it is that Europe is unable to come to an agreement with the USA. To be frank, there is no way that I can disagree with the previous speaker, my colleague Mr Hannan, that this is a clear example of the anti-Americanism that exists in certain circles in this Chamber. I believe that Europe should cooperate with the USA – the United States is our natural partner in so many areas – but in particular it should cooperate with the USA in areas relating to the tragic battle currently under way against our civilisation, where terrorists wish to destroy the very foundations on which our Union – and the USA – are built. Thank you."@en1
