"While I support efforts from the international community to recognise and ultimately address ongoing conflict in Armenia, and while it is paramount that ethically sound trade deals and third country negotiations take into account such problems in their creation, I cannot endorse EU negotiations in Armenia as I do not acknowledge the European Union as an entity that should have an individualised and unified approach to foreign affairs. While the report recognises the deficit in democracy, restrictions on individual freedoms and the stifling of expression as administered by the ruling party, it is not the duty of the European Union to highlight and address these issues but of supranational organisations elected to represent the voice of its members in the field of international relations and the sovereign prerogative of nation states themselves."@en1
