lpv:translated text	"I support this report because I value the closer association of Azerbaijan with the EU as a fundamental step for the EU Eastern Partnership initiative. The report acknowledges Azerbaijan as a strategic partner of the EU, but, at the same time, it criticises the Azeri Government for its still insufficient democratic standards. In addition to that, thanks to our proposal, the progression of the association agreement is linked – as in the report on Armenia – to the resumption of negotiations on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The current status quo, which involves the illegal occupation of the territory of Nagorno-Karabakh by Armenian forces, bloody incidents on the contact line and inflammatory rhetoric, is incompatible with European values."@en1
