"I voted in favour of this report as a whole and support the many positive measures within the text. The European Union’s policies should be consistently exemplary within the EU, as well as being in line with fundamental values and principles. I could not vote against Amendment 7 outlining positive action in respect of LGBT rights and combating human rights’ violations on the grounds of sexual orientation and gender identity in some parts of the world. I abstained from the vote on the second part of paragraph 93 as I did not believe that it was necessary to stress, in particular, the need to promote sexual and reproductive health, having already dealt in the first part of the paragraph with the need for adequate gynaecological and obstetric care, as defined by the World Health Organisation."@en1
