While the report we have voted on today refers to the outermost regions, we must not forget that some regions – located at the very heart of Europe – can be regarded as facing the same challenges due to extreme isolation, altitude, as well as difficult living and economic production conditions. For example, mountainous regions are just as disadvantaged as those located a great distance away from the mainland.
