"Mr President, last week, Portugal voted in favour of the treaty or, rather, the budget ultimatum, as it is worth pointing out that it is not, in fact, an EU treaty. The vote in favour of the government parties reflects the accumulation of decades and decades of stupidity and an attitude typical of a good boot-licking student who does not think and obeys bad teachers. The Socialist Party’s position, and that of its leader, changed from an extremely dangerous and violent abstention to a grovelling vote in favour. This alliance makes our Portuguese Parliament the first parliament to accept the humiliation of having one of its most important functions, for which the people elected it, taken away: deciding the country’s annual budget. This is yet another blow from the European Union, yet another, in which financial power is increasingly out of reach of citizens’ votes. I ask, Mr President, is it democratic for someone to vote for not being able to vote any more?"@en1
