"Mr President, I would like to refer to the issue discussed by Ms Záborská, that is, Lukashenko and the dictatorship in Belarus. In recent days, two political prisoners, Sannikov and Bondarenko, have been freed. This is a good move, but I believe that the reason that it is so good is that the European Union showed that, from time to time, it can be firm and unequivocal in its condemnation of the regime in Belarus. Let us not forget, however, that at the present time, there are more than a dozen political prisoners in Belarus and that the policy decided on in Parliament over the last couple of weeks should be maintained as it has begun to bear fruit. I hope that neither our Chamber nor the European Union as a whole will show signs of weakness or that for which our institution has unfortunately been well known, namely, a certain changeability that manifests itself as taking one step forward in order to take two steps back. Let us maintain fixity of purpose in this regard and this will bring about positive effects, both for the inhabitants of Belarus and for ourselves."@en1
