"Mr President, it is clear that the Syrian people want more democracy and more justice. In Syria, for many years there has been government opposition demanding it and wanting changes in the Syrian political system. However, what we are seeing today is not a revolution, nor the military crushing of a peaceful popular uprising. What we are seeing today in Syria is a military conflict instigated, financed, armed and encouraged from the outside. What we are dealing with here is the arming, financing and training of mercenary forces and terrorists by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Jordan, Turkey and, according to different sources, the United States and France as well. What we are seeing is not just an internal Syrian conflict but a destabilising operation by imperialists and their allies who want to secure control of resources and countries in the Middle East.
The necessary peaceful solution to the conflict, which we advocate should be achieved through national dialogue within the UN, will only succeed if the European Union, the United States and other countries do not disrespect the sovereignty of the Syrian people and do not make demands, particularly financial and military ones, in the ongoing conflict. Until that happens, alleged peaceful intentions and concerns are pure and simple hypocrisy."@en1
