"Madam President, ladies and gentlemen, what I hope we can do is draw up a thorough report on any violation of freedom of worship, wherever it occurs, and whatever religion is prevented from being upheld, practised or pursued by anyone in the world. Not a discriminatory report against any one religion, but a report that starts from acknowledging the growing number of attacks on Christians around the world, which are becoming more severe and more numerous, as I have already said.
I believe, given that this Parliament regards the protection of human rights and of all human rights as fundamental, that the protection of religious rights is perhaps the most fundamental, since they are based not only on human needs but on morals, and therefore we must be united in defending them, and in doing so, we are consistent with the objectives of this Parliament and are consistent with the defence of human rights, which has repeatedly been hailed around the world as a victory for civilisation. I am sure you will be on my side, as I am on yours."@en1
