"I decided to vote in favour of this report because the Green Paper on corporate governance for European companies published in April 2011 by the Commission leaves out important issues, such as board decision making, directors’ independence and so on. It seems to me that we must apply to our companies, depending on the size and type of the company, a basic set of adapted good governance measures, while also taking into account their social responsibility. Some essential issues must be taken into consideration, such as equality between men and women within companies, including through the use of gender quotas, so that we do not miss out on the potential for growth represented by the female part of the active population. Therefore, women must be properly represented on company boards, places of power from which they are too often excluded."@en1
