"I voted for this resolution because the EU and Turkey have a commercial dependence on each other, with the EU being Turkey’s biggest trading partner. However, there remains a lack of convergence in many areas. One example is visa policy, as Turkey is the only candidate country which does not enjoy a visa waiver. One of the reasons for this is the large number of illegal immigrants who use Turkey’s borders to enter EU territory, taking advantage of its position as a focal point. There is also the matter of Turkey failing to implement fully the additional protocol to the association agreement and the Customs Union."@en1
