"With regard to the motion for a resolution on the European integration process of Kosovo, I voted against the first part of Amendment 2, which largely retains the original text of paragraph 1 of the resolution. In this paragraph, Parliament notes that Kosovo’s declaration of independence has been recognised by 88 countries, including 22 EU Member States, and states that Parliament would welcome both the recognition of this declaration by all EU Member States and their more active participation in the mediation process between Serbia and Kosovo. Given that recognition of such a declaration is a prerogative of Member States and that Romania has not recognised Kosovo’s declaration of independence, I thought that voting against this text complies with both the EU Treaties and Member States’ subsidiarity. I also voted against the second part of Amendment 2, which refers to diplomatic pressure being exerted by Serbia to prevent certain countries from recognising Kosovo. Lastly, since these texts have been adopted, in spite of the constructive criticism made and the recommendations of the resolution on the European integration process of Kosovo, I did not support the final version of the resolution."@en1
