lpv:translated text	"I voted against the report on the establishment of a European Endowment for Democracy because this is an effort to create yet another intervention mechanism to promote the interests of the European Union. Its basic objective will be to give the EU ways of supporting political parties, civil society and activists campaigning for democracy in countries under autocratic regimes or in a process of transition. In my opinion, and in the opinion of the Confederal Group of the European United Left – Nordic Green Left, this is a mechanism designed to directly influence political developments in third countries, but for the benefit of interests alien to the real interests of the people. Furthermore, this mechanism will be used not only by the EU and the Member States, but also by private operators and other States. This will reduce the influence and any democratic control of it by the Union and, more importantly, by the European Parliament."@en1
