"The European Globalisation Adjustment Fund (EGF) was established to provide additional support for workers made redundant as a result of major structural changes in world trade patterns caused by globalisation, and to assist them with their reintegration into the labour market. The interinstitutional agreement of 17 May 2006 allows the mobilisation of the EGF within an annual ceiling of EUR 500 million. On 1 July 2011, Spain submitted an application to mobilise the EGF in respect of redundancies in 513 enterprises operating in the NACE Revision 2 Division 41 (‘Construction of buildings’) in the NUTS II region of Comunidad Valenciana (ES52), and supplemented the application with additional information up to 25 November 2011. The submitted application complies with the requirements for determining the financial contributions as laid down in Article 10 of Regulation (EC) No 1927/2006, and the Commission therefore proposed the release of funds in the amount of EUR 1 642 030. Since the country meets the set requirements, I share the view that the EGF should be mobilised in order to provide the financial contribution requested by Spain."@en1
