"Freezing the budget for 2013 is the least we can do. In all European countries, we are seeking to reduce spending in order to reduce public debt. Today, we are voting along those lines to freeze our budget in 2013, even though the effort is still, I admit, a modest one. Moreover, we will continue to look for ways to make savings to step up the rationalisation efforts over the coming months. We are also remaining vigilant with regard to defending the major democratic principles during this difficult period so that those political parties that do not uphold the basic principles of freedom, the rule of law and democracy may not receive funding from the institution: that, in itself, is the least we can do."@en1
