"The European Parliament, meeting in Brussels, has just approved an 18-month extension of the deadline for transposing the directive on the protection of workers exposed to electromagnetic fields. The transposition deadline was 30 April 2012. However, Parliament had been alerted by the medical community to the fact that the maximum exposure values set by the directive placed disproportionate limitations on the use and development of medical magnetic resonance applications (MR), so it therefore decided to extend the deadline in order to continue the consultations and take the most appropriate decision. The challenge will be to find a fair balance between the protection of workers and the effective monitoring of patients when diagnosing and treating diseases."@en1
