"I supported the new European rules on the export of dual use items, with both civil and military uses, such as chemical products and telecommunications apparatus and software. More precisely, they aim to combat interception technologies and digital data transfer devices for monitoring mobile phones and text messages and targeted surveillance of Internet use. Today, with our vote, we are opposing the export of those technologies that could be used for purposes that put our human rights at risk when exported to countries ruled by authoritarian regimes. Finally, the list of dual use items requiring export authorisation in other countries has been updated."@en1
