"In the past few years, there has been a significant increase in the prices of natural rubber. Studies have shown these increases are caused by constrained short-term supply, rising demand (particularly from China), few rubber trees planted and heavy rains in the major producing countries. Such far-reaching problems need to be dealt with and resolved within the International Rubber Study Group (IRSG), the intergovernmental organisation of which the European Union is a member, the aim of which is to collect and disseminate comprehensive statistical information on the world rubber industry. The recent amendment of the constitution and rules of procedure will put the IRSG in a better position than ever to act as a forum for discussion in which to find shared solutions in order to deal more effectively with future problems in the rubber industry."@en1
