"Madam President, when we talk about refugees, I have the impression that too often we go to extremes on both sides of the argument. I say this because all those who say that very often, the right to political asylum is abused by people who are actually migrating for economic reasons are, of course, correct. On the other hand, however, it should be remembered that we must not – as we sometimes say – throw the baby out with the bathwater. For example, I come from a country from which, over the centuries, very many people had to flee for political reasons, and they found a welcome in other countries. Europe is attractive because it is a place of freedom, and it should welcome all those who have defended freedom in their own countries but cannot live there."@en1
