"We shall not accept any proposal from the Commission that, at a time of enormous social and economic difficulties, deprives people and workers of the food aid that guarantees them a minimum standard of living and guarantees their right not to live in food poverty. We advocate extending this programme until 2020 and maintaining, or preferably increasing, the annual funding level of EUR 500 million. Some 115 million people in the European Union are currently at risk of poverty. As so-called ‘budget consolidation’ measures are already exacerbating this situation, it would be inhumane and unacceptable for the European Union to take this aid away just when people need it most."@en1
