"Madam President, human trafficking in Sinai is stirring up debate, and, indeed, that is what it should do as far as the European Union is concerned. We are committed to defending human dignity, whatever the circumstances, and we must do so in partnership with the international community.
The particular case of Solomon W. is now before us. As we now have Commissioner Reding with us, I would like to ask her what sort of practical measures the Commission has taken – given that we have known about the situation for more than a year now – to prevent human trafficking and to restrict it. I also want to ask what sort of dialogue the Commission has been engaged in with the Egyptian Government and with the administration there. We know, of course, that the Egyptian Government and administration do not respect human rights in the same way, because, unfortunately, they basically see things differently, but what concrete measures have been taken now with Egypt in that region, and is there anything positive to report to us about them?"@en1
