"The Islamic terrorist group Boko Haram has carried out a series of attacks in Nigeria, with the aim of establishing an Islamic state. The latest attack took place in the town of Kano, killing about 185 people, and was largely targeted at the police. In response, the national authorities took extrajudicial measures against members of the Islamist group. This escalation of violence and conflict between different religious and ethnic groups has led to economic, social and political stagnation in the country. Although Nigeria is a country that is extremely rich in natural resources, and the eighth-largest oil producer in the world, it is facing a social scourge whereby the majority of its 148 million inhabitants live below the poverty line. I support dialogue and cooperation with the Nigerian authorities, in order to carry out the reforms that are essential for the country, so as to stimulate growth and economic development."@en1
