"I voted for the European Parliament resolution on the 2011 progress report on Bosnia and Herzegovina. The prospect of EU membership is one of the most unifying factors among the people of this country. I should emphasise the key role played by education in creating a multi-ethnic society and promoting an inclusive, non-discriminatory education system. I think that the quality of education needs to be improved to meet the demand of the labour market. With this in mind, I call on the Bosnia and Herzegovina authorities to remedy the shortcomings in vocational training in order to attract foreign direct investment, as well as to ensure that the accreditation of education institutions gets under way and the agencies dealing with the recognition of diplomas become fully operational. In Bosnia and Herzegovina, workers’ and trade union rights are still limited. I call on the government to enhance these rights further and work towards harmonising the legal framework in this regard across the country.
I welcome the implementation of the Small Business Act and the efforts to provide financial support measures to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). I should stress the importance of setting up a register for compiling economic statistics and a single SME registration system for the entire country, which will help the number of SMEs grow and create a specific status for them."@en1
