"I endorsed these reports. We have adopted three reports on enlargement: on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Iceland and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia. This might suggest that in the European Parliament, we are dominated by the problem of the economic crisis, a situation which often leads us to ask fundamental questions about whether the Union or the euro area will survive, whereas hard on the heels of Croatia, there are yet other countries which have declared their desire to join the European Union. This means that the way the Union is perceived from outside is very different from the way it is perceived from within. For many countries, the values associated with the European Union and the opportunities the Union gives in a Europe which is coming together and in a global world are something of value and an objective which they would like to achieve. So these votes are an encouragement to us to move faster and to increase our efforts to recover from the crisis, and to the EU’s Member States to renew their confidence in the European Union and its institutions."@en1
