Despite some mild criticism of the Council’s performance in budgetary matters, the document begins by praising ‘the fiscal consolidation efforts undertaken by most Member States because of the financial and budgetary crisis’ that are now being reinforced by the illegitimate International Treaty on Stability, Coordination and Governance in the Economic and Monetary Union, whose purpose is nothing more than to exacerbate and prolong indefinitely the so-called austerity measures that, as I have mentioned, this report welcomes. It is also significant that it advocates greater political integration and the application of automatic sanctions to Member States. Whatever positive aspects the report may contain cannot remove or hide these profoundly negative ones. Needless to say, we voted against."@en1
