"I welcome the fact that the European Parliament has agreed to continue the ban on imports of hormone-treated beef into the EU and, at the same time, to introduce higher tariff quotas for high-quality beef from the US and Canada. Adopting this report brings an end to a trade dispute between the EU and the US that has had a negative impact on many areas of foreign trade and caused great damage. We are now in a position that ensures the safety of European consumers and exporters. This report results in a clear win-win situation. The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development has spoken out in favour of the report in its statement. I would like to make it clear how important it is to put an end to trade disputes and to devote our energies to other tasks. The European Union must focus on competitiveness, innovation and growth. Trade disputes do not help us in these areas."@en1
