The United States has suspended sanctions on some EU products and the European Union is offering significant access to its market for hormone-free beef. We have finally put an end to this dispute. This agreement makes it possible for the Union to keep its ban on hormone-treated beef, in exchange for increased import quotas for high-quality beef from the United States and Canada. As Ms Le Brun and Ms Saïfi of the Group of the European People’s Party (Christian Democrats) said, ‘This is a victory for European diplomacy but, above all, a victory for European consumers. The United States and Canada failed to impose hormone-treated beef on Europeans, who did not want it. Sanctions were not enough to make us change our mind’."@en1
