"Mr President, you mentioned that my country was truly in a state of shock as a result of this terrible coach accident and, as we speak, the parents of those children are together in a school and still do not know whether their child is alive or dead because they have not yet been identified.
I do not think the country has ever known an accident like this one. As you said, 22 children have been killed, along with the accompanying adults and the bus driver, and some have been injured and are in a very serious condition.
As I will not have the opportunity to do so this afternoon, I would like to thank President Schulz who telephoned me at 07.15 this morning to say that he shared the sadness of the Belgian people and that he would hold a minute’s silence at midday when there will be more people in this Chamber. Thank you again for your compassion."@en1
