"Of course, the trans-European network and the TEN-T project are major undertakings. The results are very concrete for every Member State, so the discussions are really very serious. We will be having a Council meeting next week at which we expect the Council to adopt the general approach concerning the TEN-T guidelines, namely, the maps and the network.
We are definitely ready to make some compromises, but we will definitely keep the basic principle that this must be a trans-European network. What follows will be more difficult. This is a discussion about connecting Europe which is not in the hands of transport ministers, but mostly in the hands of finance ministers.
So there are two parts. I think that the TEN-T maps and TEN-T guidelines will be more or less satisfactory with regard to the trans-European dimension of this project. If they are not satisfactory, the Commission definitely will not accept any watering down of this project."@en1
