"I abstained in the vote on the report. The reason for this is that the report is so one-sided in the way it is linked to the fiscal compact and in its call for economic governance, monitoring and control. I obviously fully support the proposals for statistics to be compiled in accordance with the principles of impartiality, objectivity and professional independence. However, it would have been good if the report could also have emphasised the importance of statistics on employment, the pay gap, class differences and environmental effects. These are areas that will be severely affected by the fiscal compact."@en1
