"Given that the right to education is one of the basic values of the EU, the Bologna process has a key role in reinforcing that value. The provision and promotion of mobility, recognition and employability between the Member States is essential for fulfilling the employment and growth objectives set out in the Europe 2020 strategy. I have voted in favour of this report as it highlights the EU’s commitment to young Europeans, ensuring they have the opportunity to enjoy a multicultural education and comprehensive recognition, irrespective of their origin or economic resources. The importance of the Bologna process and the consolidation of the EHEA in aiding Europe to counter the current period of economic instability must also be highlighted. For this reason, it calls for the need for the Member States and the EU to support this process by increasing public investment in higher education and promoting grants for students. The functions of research and innovation in European universities also need increased investment from the Member States and the EU, given that they are vital for the future development of the Union."@en1
