"Launched in 1999, the Bologna process has helped to build a European Higher Education Area, make teaching more competitive and attractive, and promote student mobility. This major programme allows the degrees of European students to be recognised outside the European Union, in 47 states in fact. I am strongly in favour of this common framework, which will be increasingly crucial for our children. I therefore voted in favour of this report, which calls for a larger budget and a greater contribution from the European institutions, universities and Member States. The measures that need to be strengthened include the recognition of degrees across Europe, the harmonisation of university standards, and the promotion of mobility, employability and social cohesion. Now that the process has been launched, it must be consolidated and respond to the growth objectives laid down in the Europe 2020 strategy."@en1
