"I wished to support the report by Ms Pietikäinen on women in political decision making, a few days after we celebrated International Women’s Day. The report backs the promotion of the principle of parity and the recommendation of quotas for women in the political sphere, which is already in force in some Member States, including France. This system of quotas for women could be implemented when drawing up the electoral lists of candidates for regional, national or European elections. The report also calls on the European Commission and the Council to work to achieve more parity in recruiting officials to high-level positions in their administrations."@en1
