"Labour MEPs voted for this report as we believe it outlines the many proactive measures that could be taken in bridging the gap between the position and status of women and men. Great strides have been made in creating gender equality in the EU; however, we still have lots to achieve. In order to create parity and fairness in the single market, we believe that these measures should be taken at EU level. We are disappointed that the British Conservative party sought to water down many parts of the report by putting the needs of small business ahead of the well-being of workers who are pregnant, have recently given birth or are breastfeeding. The EPLP will not vote to prioritise the needs of business over the safety of workers and will continue to work towards better safety standards across the board."@en1
