"Considering how long there have been fundamental freedoms in the EU, it is astonishing that the EU has only in the last few years started to pay greater attention to the legal problems for citizens arising from freedom of movement. It makes sense to establish rules that it is possible for the average citizen to understand. In view of the change in circumstances for families in Europe in particular, citizens must be able to be sure which law is applicable in their particular case. This proposal represents a step in this direction and that is why I have voted for it."@en1
