"I agree with the conclusion of an agreement on mutual assistance in criminal matters with Norway and Iceland. Uniform proceedings in criminal matters, including in relation to European countries outside the Community, is in the interests of public safety. The example of Anders Breivik shows that even in neighbouring countries with a stable political situation and a stable economy, domestic terrorism is a potential threat. The investigation in this particular case required extensive cooperation between Norway and other European countries, including Poland. This agreement makes it possible
to hear witnesses, experts and defendants via video conferencing, which will mean significant improvements to criminal proceedings conducted by the police in different countries. I therefore look forward to closer cooperation on fighting crime with countries that are, after all, also part of the Schengen area."@en1
