The goal of the Convention of 29 May 2000 on Mutual Assistance in Criminal Matters between the Member States of the European Union is to encourage and modernise cooperation between judicial, police and customs authorities and better combat cross-border crime. The agreement with Iceland and Norway is aimed at improving judicial cooperation between the EU Member States and Iceland and Norway in criminal matters. An agreement with these countries was signed six years ago, and therefore, given its importance, I welcome the European Parliament’s recommendation to immediately conclude the aforementioned agreement."@en1
