"Madam President, men and women should have equal rights, and it is the duty of the legislative institutions to create conditions in which each woman and each man can fully realise their potential. It is one of the faces of freedom, which is the most important feature of democracy. However the introduction of quotas does not lead to equal rights. Those who are proposing the introduction of quotas in politics are in fact restricting the rights of voters. They are telling people that their opinion of who should represent them in parliament is of secondary importance. This creates a democratic deficit, which cannot be defended even with statistics. If we wish to achieve real equality for women, we should not discriminate against motherhood and childcare. Let us begin to respect women in their decisions and seek ways to ensure that they are truly free when making such decisions."@en1
