"I voted in favour of this resolution because I value its aim to express our deepest concern at the gravity of the human rights violations perpetrated by the Syrian authorities. Mass arrests, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary detention, enforced disappearances, torture and ill-treatment of detainees must end.
The first step to be taken by the European Union is to draw up a blacklist of companies that deliver arms to Syria. All EU actors must fully respect the European Union Code of Conduct on Arms Exports. It is of fundamental importance to repeat that for the international community, the Syrian regime has lost all its credibility and legitimacy and that President Bashar al-Assad must step aside immediately, so as to allow a peaceful and democratic transition to take place in Syria."@en1
