Unfortunately, the logic of national interests has prevailed which, as has already happened in other sectors, benefits major industries from northern Europe to the detriment of those from the south, including, in particular, the Mediterranean area. This House has not followed the indications provided in the opinion of the Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development, which had voted against ratification of the agreement. Considering also the crisis and the indiscriminate increases in the cost of fuel in Italy, which has a significant impact on the price of agricultural foodstuffs, we risk setting off a war among the poor. Moreover, the quality and safety aspect of the imported products is not to be overlooked, since the guarantees which will be provided are not sufficient in my opinion."@en1
