"In the context of the new powers conferred on the European Parliament by the Treaty of Lisbon, we can only either approve or reject a trade agreement, and this does not allow us to take a more nuanced position. The resolution, which we voted on at the same time as the Protocol to the agreement, has this specific function: to show that, despite the restricted choices that we have, we are examining all the implications and consequences once this is implemented. This resolution is balanced and provides a good summing up of the different points of view held by the parties involved. It also underlines the advantages that this new liberalisation will provide for the two parties: it consolidates the position of European exporters on the Moroccan market while maintaining mechanisms for protecting the most sensitive areas of European production. That is why I supported it in plenary."@en1
