"I voted for this resolution because we must take a strong position and reiterate once again our serious concerns on the situation in Hungary in relation to the exercise of democracy, rule of law and protection of human and social rights.
Most of all, I am deeply worried about the independence of the judiciary in Hungary. It is unacceptable that the new head of the National Judicial Authority and the Chief Prosecutor will have the right to assign cases to tribunals, infringing the principle of the right to access to court and to a fair trial.
The Hungarian Prime Minister, in front of the European Parliament, expressed his readiness to comply with the recommendations and objections raised by the EU institutions in order to respect the basic values and standards of the European Union. With this resolution, we clearly state that we cannot accept further delays."@en1
