"Mr President, the problems of the common fisheries policy seem to go on and on and never seem to end. As they go on, the problems also go on for the fishermen and the people who actually work on shore and depend on the industry.
We have continuing disagreements between scientists and local fishermen as to who is right and who is wrong, and we never seem to be able to get to the end or have any control of it.
The real answer is that we need more regional control in fisheries; we need more regional support to the local areas and less interference from the centre. It is time for common sense. Fish are extremely important to everyone, and whenever something is blocked in Council, it must be unblocked at the earliest possible moment."@en1
