"Mr President, a few days ago, in the Mamae Nunnery in the Tibetan-inhabited district of Ngawa in the southwest Chinese province of Sichuan, an eighteen-year-old nun set fire to herself in protest against the religious policy of the Chinese administration. Security forces closed access to the nunnery immediately after the incident and have imposed a strict news blackout on the case. The Chinese nation is one of the oldest cultured and civilised nations in the world, and so I cannot understand why the highest representatives of this large, educated and decent nation feel so much hatred and anger towards the Tibetan people, few in number and unarmed, who want nothing more than to preserve their own culture and faith. It might therefore be a good idea to use the 19th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council to remind the leaders of the world powers that, if we want a better world, their behaviour must be marked by decency, wisdom and generosity to the weak."@en1
